WHO'S BEHIND THIS GUIDE
Mount KK Guide is put together by a team based right here in Sabah — people who know this mountain from the ground, not from a spreadsheet in another country.
Most content written about Mount Kinabalu online comes from people who visited once, or who never visited at all. We're different — the mountkk.my team is made up of real Sabahans who understand what actually happens on the ground: how the weather really behaves at Laban Rata, what the permit system is like to navigate in practice, and what first-time climbers genuinely struggle with.
That local perspective shapes everything on this site — from the honest fitness advice on our Difficulty & Fitness page, to the practical detail in our Packing List, to keeping our pricing information current and accurate rather than copy-pasted from outdated sources.
Every fee, permit rule, and trail detail on this site is checked against real, current sources — not guessed at from afar.
We tell you when the climb is genuinely hard, when weather can ruin your trip, and when a "deal" looks like a scam — because that's what a local would tell a friend.
We're not Sabah Parks and we don't run the mountain — we're an independent guide built to help you plan well before you get here.
Have a question, spotted something outdated, or want to share your own climb experience? We'd like to hear from you — get in touch here.
